Our History

In 1981, Hill-n-Dale Christian Church was formed, shortly after Southland Christian Church moved from this church building to her current location.  A number of families wanted to ensure that a strong New Testament church remained in the Hill-n-Dale neighborhood; one of Hill-n-Dale’s earliest slogans was “a church worth finding.”  Wayne Holcomb was called as Hill-n-Dale’s first minister, and he preached here for nearly two decades.  In 1998, he was succeeded by David Welsh, who preached at Hill-n-Dale for eight years, until the 2007 calling of current senior minister Phil Roberts.  A number of outstanding associate ministers have also served at Hill-n-Dale over its three decades.

Hill-n-Dale has always been a member of the independent Christian Churches and Churches of Christ, a branch of the Restoration Movement dating back to the ’Second Great Awakening,’ which largely began in 1801 on the American frontier at the nearby Cane Ridge Revival site close to Paris.  We have strived to be contemporary and relevant to the families in our neighborhood and community, even while remaining true to the Bible and to the Restoration ideal of simulating the church described in the book of Acts.

Three decades of ministry in a changing community have included far more highs than lows, and the Lord has been faithful in honoring that original vision of a strong New Testament church remaining in this neighborhood.  In the decades to come, our prayer is that even more individuals and families will discover on Hill-n-Dale Road an exciting, welcoming family and ”a church worth finding.”
